At Ballinteer Educate Together National School, our Student Council is a vital part of school life, offering students the opportunity to actively participate in shaping their school community. The Council is made up of elected representatives from each class, with younger classes often represented by older students. Elections are held annually by secret ballot, and students are encouraged to campaign and present their ideas, giving them hands-on experience of how democracy works.
The Council meets regularly during school hours, with meetings facilitated by the Principal and supported by a teacher representative. Members collect ideas and feedback from their classmates and bring these to meetings for discussion and action. Roles are rotated helping them build leadership and communication skills. The Student Council has its own constitution, developed in partnership with staff and students, and plays a key role in planning school-wide events, fundraising initiatives, and spirit-building activities. Their recommendations are often brought to the PTA and Board of Management, ensuring that student voices are heard and valued throughout the school.
