Announcing the New School
Ballinteer Educate Together National School originated with a start-up group of parents in 2010. As the South Dublin Educate Together Start-Up Group, they contacted the Department of Education with the aim of setting up an Educate Together school for their children and the children of families in the area. The school, like other Educate Together schools, would be multidenominational, co-educational, child-centred, and democratically-run.
At the pre-enrolment day that September, over 120 families pre-enrolled their children in the first three hours. Many of these parents arrived three hours early to line up and ensure their place on the list. A number of local Councillors and TDs came on the day to show their support.
During the following two years the start-up group focused on lobbying the Department of Education and managing the rapidly expanding pre-enrolment list. In March 2012 the Department of Education announced that Educate Together had been granted patronage of the new school, Ballinteer Educate Together National School. The Principal, Marie Gordon, was appointed in May. The school welcomed the first Junior Infant children on Monday, 3rd September 2012.
In November 2016, we were informed that our school would be moved on a temporary basis to the campus of Notre Dame, on the Upper Churchtown Road, awaiting our building on the permanent site on the grounds of St. Tiernan’s.
Eleven classes begun on the shared campus in Notre Dame on September 4th 2017.
In September 2022, we moved into our brand new building on a shared campus with St Tiernan’s Community School.
As of September 2023, we have now grown to having sixteen wonderful classes from Junior Infants to Sixth Class as well as two fabulous autism classes. Along with our students, our staff has grown too and we now have 23 fantastic and dedicated teachers, nine hard working SNAs, an excellent secretary and an extremely efficient caretaker.
